About me and my associates

My name is Marc Bax, pleased to meet you...

Marc Bax

I studied mechanical engineering and applied physics at the University of Twente (the Netherlands). Since getting my Masters in 1987 I've worked in development, marketing and sales of new technology-based products. In the fields of printing equipment and medical/diagnostic devices. From designing a lens mounting system for a meter-wide printhead to selling digital ECG-recorders and printing presses across the globe.

Before I set up Panchromos I was a director of Team Consulting, a medium-sized technology consultancy in the Cambridge area. Now both competitors and colleagues

I'm Dutch by birth but European by heart, and now British by residence. Happy to converse in German or French if you prefer. Or Dutch of course...

I strongly believe in the networked society and the power of professional collaboration. So do my associates - seasoned independent professionals with corporate experience. Diverse backgrounds. And entrepreneurial mindsets.

If I (very ocassionally) want to take my mind off your products and opportunities you might find me tinkering in the workshop, ready-steady-cooking in the kitchen, abusing my mountain bike in Wales or giving my badminton partners a hard time.

Meet some of my associates:

Lawrence Archard

Lawrence Archard

Lawrence is an electronics engineer and embedded software programmer. Over the course of the past 5 years we've worked together on a wide range of projects - including medical devices, toys and consumer electronics. Prior to going freelance Lawrence worked at The Technology Partnership (TTP), one of the "big four" technology consultancies in Cambridge.

John Blackwell

John Blackwell

John is an optical designer with many years of experience on imaging and illumination optics. Before going freelance John worked at BAe Systems and FujiFilm Electronic Imaging. John has been involved in a wide range of products including endoscopes, industrial sensing equipment, laser optics and toys.

John Lancaster & Lawrence Chong

Again John and Lawrence - but these two are specialists in printed circuit board layout and have worked with us on most of our projects.

Would you like to become an associate?

As you have read on this site, I put together project-specific virtual teams of independent specialists. If you are such a professional, like this approach and are interested to contribute to future projects, I'd like to get to know you.

I'm looking for people who can make a personal commitment. Who get the work done themselves instead of managing others. This keeps our project organisation simple. Overheads low. And you, me and our clients happy. I'm also looking for:

  • Excellence at a specialist skill or knowledge that can be useful in the product development field - apart from the obvious designers and engineers I can also use clever people with backgrounds in arts, social sciences, purchasing etc.
  • Experience collaborating in (international) virtual teams
  • For international partners: Located within easy reach of an airport served by budget airlines flying to/from London Luton or Stansted: Although we will predominantly communicate online and by phone, it is essential that face-to-face meetings can be arranged easily and cost-effectively
  • Willingness to work in accordance with our quality policy, set up in accordance with the requirements of ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 13485

If that is you and you're still interested after reading so far, please contact me by phone or send an email to join@panchromos.com
